Complex replantation procedure for amputated hand in AIIMS

There was a significant case at AIIMS Delhi recently where a 38-year-old laborer from Raipur, who suffered an accidental hand amputation while operating a wood cutter machine, was given a new lease on life through a complex replantation procedure conducted by a dedicated team of surgeons.

The patient's family played a crucial role in this life-saving endeavor by promptly collecting the amputated hand and preserving it in ice packs. Within just 90 minutes of the accident, they rushed the patient to AIIMS for urgent medical attention.

Upon arrival at AIIMS, the Plastic Surgeon Team wasted no time. They assessed the feasibility of replantation and determined that it was possible. The patient was swiftly moved to the operating room (OT), where a grueling seven-hour surgery ensued.

The surgery team was led by Dr. Jiten Kumar Mishra, Head of the Department, Plastic Surgery.
